When you think of Texas, what comes to mind? For many people, it’s steak, cowboy boots, and armadillos. These items are part of the inspiration behind the chain restaurant Texas Roadhouse – a company that was actually founded in Indiana, not Texas!

Texas Roadhouse serves a large menu of hearty southwestern fare. Its offerings include steak, burgers, ribs, pulled pork, seafood, and chicken. It is known for its great service, as well as its yummy freshly baked bread with honey cinnamon butter.

At Budget Branders, we know that all great restaurant stories start with a dream and a single location – just like Texas Roadhouse. If you want to build your restaurant, having a great marketing plan is key. We offer a full range of custom-printed disposable products to help your business succeed, including custom plastic cups, custom takeout bags, and custom napkins. All About Texas Roadhouse

Although Texas Roadhouse specializes in southwestern and Texas-style cuisine, you may be surprised to learn that it was actually founded in Indiana in 1993. Its founder, W. Kent Taylor, had worked at restaurants and nightclubs in Colorado before returning home to his native Louisville, Kentucky. He fulfilled his dream of opening a Colorado-themed restaurant, the Buckhead Mountain Grill.

After a split with his partner, Taylor had trouble finding investors to pursue a new concept: a Texas-themed steakhouse. He eventually convinced three investors to fund his new idea based on drawings on loose papers and co*cktail napkins. In 1993, he opened the first Texas Roadhouse in Clarksville, Indiana – right across the Ohio River from Louisville. Taylor ultimately sold his shares of Buckhead Mountain Grill to focus on Texas Roadhouse.

The idea grew rapidly, with new restaurants opening within a year in Ohio and Florida. Unfortunately, three of the new locations closed quickly because they were built in poor locations. Taylor ultimately decided that he needed to improve training, building design, and decor. He also hired a new chef to transform how Texas Roadhouse prepared and served its food.

By 1999, Taylor’s new strategy demonstrated its success, with 67 new restaurants opening across the country. In 2004, the chain became a publicly traded company. By 2011, Texas Roadhouse opened its first international location in Dubai. Today, Texas Roadhouse has 627 locations in 49 U.S. states and 10 countries.

Texas Roadhouse’s slogan is “Legendary Food, Legendary Service.” It is well-known for its freshly baked bread with honey cinnamon butter, as well as its mascot – an armadillo named Andy. In addition to excellent service, the restaurants have live entertainment: line dancing.

Each Texas Roadhouse restaurant has a “Willie’s Corner,” dedicated to legendary singer Willie Nelson. In 2022, Nelson became an official partner of the chain and has done many promotions. In fact, Willie Nelson owns a Texas Roadhouse in South Austin, Texas.

Texas Roadhouse: Menu and Prices
