    We care about making our courses accessible to people with disabilities.Here are 7 ways we have our eLearning Training of Trainers accessible:1️⃣ Universal Design Principles are embedded within our course design processes.2️⃣ Alt text is included in all images and graphics for those with screen readers.3️⃣ Contrast colour is given in all visual elements to ensure visual accessibility.4️⃣ Captions and subtitles are provided in audios and videos to ensure auditory accessibility.5️⃣ Navigation is ensured via a screen reader and a keyboard and all external materials are downloadable and formatted for screen reader accessibility.6️⃣ Scripts are available for videos and audios, making content accessible to people with cognitive, visual and hearing disabilities or impairments, or for those who simply need written support.7️⃣ Cognitive load is taken into account with all course content.     I needed this program a year ago(So I built it myself)I have taken various courses and programs which I never finished. All due to their lack of accessibility.⇢ No closed captions⇢ No transcriptions⇢ No accountability⇢ No call agendasIt made it impossible to participate, retain information, or complete. Research has shown that ⇢ Students with disabilities have lower participation, retention, and graduation rates compared to their peers without disabilities (Gladhart,2010; Izzo et al.,2008).In an online environment, the very technology intended to provide increased access and flexibility can instead prevent access for students with disabilities, ultimately contributing to these lower rates (Gladhart,2010). Regardless of whether someone has a hidden disability or a different learning style, I wanted to change these rates.Starting with GBSB.Here's what we have in place so far:⇢ Cameras are optional, not required. ⇢ Step-by-step loom videos (with closed captions). ⇢ Topic-based channels (to keep order and structure).⇢ Overcommunication (to eliminate misunderstandings).⇢ Workshops are accompanied by slides(to assist processing). ⇢ Live workshops are recorded, with transcripts and time stamps.⇢ Live workshops are kept to under 45 minutes (with breaks in between). ⇢ Assignments are self-paced (with regular check-ins + hands-on support).⇢ Events pages with all necessary information provided ahead of time. From dates and times, to call lengths, topics discussed, and expected outcomes.We are still reviewing how we can improve accessibility every day.If I had this a year ago, my completion and success rate would have been much higher. Now our students get to experience accessibility first-hand while gaining clarity about their messaging, positioning and differentiation.A lack of accessibility often lies within a brand's policies.Which is ultimately influenced by your brand strategy.If your program is inaccessible, you have a brand strategy problem.As simple as that.     Good evening, everyone! I wanted to share that my first portfolio project is up on my website! While I am proud of the final product, I wanted to share some of my takeaways:1. It is okay to try new things and ✨ NOT ✨ be perfect at it.As a recovering perfectionist, this was a challenging realization I had to have in making my first portfolio project! I got stuck with analysis paralysis and worried that even after the time I spent making this project, it wouldn't be as good as I had hoped. After some practice, I got better and I look forward to growing in my skills!2. If you lead with passion in what you do, your excitement about your work will flourish! 🌷 I am incredibly passionate about inclusiveness in the workplace and I allowed that to guide me in making this project. Now that I've taken the first step of putting my first project out there, I can start getting more creative and finding new ways to create engaging and diverse learning experiences.3. It might be scary to put yourself out there, but if you never try, you'll never know. 🌟 Before I left education, I struggled to find my own voice and empower myself in my work. As I've come into learning new skills in instructional design, I have found that I am happier to be pursuing this career than I have been in a long time.     Accessibility in teaching, I think, should ideally also involve teaching *about* accessibility. One simple example is asking students to think about the accessibility of things they create in a course (assignments, presentations). If it is a visual/audio product, is there description/captioning/transcription? If they are using something like canva or padlet, are these applications navigable by people with disabilities? (My understanding is that less exciting things like PowerPoint are often more accessible). I think practices like this also help demystify for students the accommodations/inclusive design process that a lot of instructors have to go through - when is it possible to design something that works for most people? When do specific modifications need to be made for individual needs etc.
