Job Description

This position supports the continued development and advancement offunctions related to Northern Arizona University's academic andcourse catalogs, Coursedog Curriculum Routing Software and theOracle/PeopleSoft student information systems. This role isresponsible for the implementation of undergraduate and graduatecurriculum into Coursedog Curriculum Routing Software and theOracle/PeopleSoft student information systems. The positionrequires daily interaction with university faculty, staff, andadministrators to clarify needs and resolve concerns related toissues that impact curricular functions.

Oracle/PeopleSoft/Coursedog Technical Expertise - 55%

  • In Oracle/PeopleSoft and Coursedog, build and maintain courses,supporting requisite structures, and academic structure, asapproved by the College and University Curricular Committees.Ensure accuracy and functionality of setup.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on all tables and fieldsrelated to the course catalog and enrollment requirement groups inthe student information system. Utilize best practices in creatingand maintaining data.
  • Review and streamline standard conventions for maintainingcourse catalog data and enrollment requirement groups in thestudent information system. Test and document processes.
  • Monitor the reconciliation of courses between the studentinformation system and the curriculum management system to ensuredata is in sync; trouble-shoot and resolve issues as needed.
  • Understand the complex interdependencies of data in the studentinformation system associated with course catalog, coursedog,enrollment requirement groups, and schedule of classes toeffectively and collaboratively trouble-shoot and resolve relatedissues.
  • Work within Curriculum and Assessment, with Registrar's Officestaff, and the university community to develop new processes andprocedures to make the course catalog and academic structurefunctions of Oracle/PeopleSoft and Coursedog more efficient andeasier to use.

Collaborations and Partnerships - 20%

  • Review curriculum proposals and assess impact of proposal.Provide feedback to academic units and approving bodies to ensurethat the academic unit's stated goals for the proposal areattainable.
  • Coordinate implementation efforts with college and universitycurriculum committee coordinators, the catalog coordinator, thetransfer articulation coordinator, the Registrar's Office AcademicAdvisem*nt Reports team, and academic units.
  • Represent Curriculum and Assessment Office business processesand provide curriculum process expertise in cross-departmentaldiscussions related to academic catalog design and delivery.
  • Collaborate and cross train with the Curriculum ProcessAssociate (CPA) to understand the components of curriculumprocessing and Oracle/PeopleSoft/Coursedog platforms to integrateaspects into a single database and eliminate redundancies.
  • Regularly review end-user training needs, develop and maintaintraining documentation, and conduct in-person training, asneeded.
  • Work closely with colleges, departments, and advisors,responding to questions about their curriculum andOracle/PeopleSoft/Coursedog, resolving problems as needed.

Reporting and Testing - 20%

  • Support the following areas through the implementation andreporting of course catalog Oracle/PeopleSoft and Coursedog dataentry and reports: curriculum, scheduling, advisem*nt, enrollment,grading, transcripts, diplomas, admission, transfer work,articulation, and degree posting.
  • Conduct regular testing of Oracle/PeopleSoft and Coursedogmaintenance packs, updates and fixes, delivered bundles, and majorsystem upgrades, as well as system modifications unique to NAU, toassure the quality of systems implemented and changed.
  • Research and test enrollment issues in Student Records andsupporting areas.
  • Identify and investigate technical concerns related to directlysupported functions and work with university business analysts andprogrammers/developers to resolve them. Test results andmodifications in Oracle/PeopleSoft and Coursedog.
  • Continuously build knowledge about Oracle/PeopleSoft andCoursedog software and how it can best be used to support coursecatalog and academic structure functions at NAU by participating inindustry listservs, conferences, and user groups.
  • Write and run queries to research issues and produce ad hocreports.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in a related field AND three years ofdemonstrated experience working with core functions in theOracle/PeopleSoft Student Records module; OR
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/oreducation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of demonstrated experience working with corefunctions in the Oracle/PeopleSoft Student Records module.
  • Knowledge of college and university curriculum, policies, andprocedures.
  • Familiarity with the functions of a Registrar's Office orOffice of Curriculum & Assessment.
  • Advanced user experience with student information systems:Oracle/PeopleSoft, etc. Experience with managing system setupand/or researching and resolving system problems preferred.
  • Experience running tests of data integrity.
  • Experience with database structures and query tools.
  • Familiarity with the culture of higher education.

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitiveposition. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern ArizonaUniversity requires satisfactory results for the following: acriminal background investigation, employment historyinvestigation, degree verification (in some cases) andfingerprinting. In addition, theFire Safety Report is combined with the AnnualSecurity Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as thiscampus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses firesafety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housingand statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Salary range begins at $54,779. Annual salary commensurate withcandidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the FairLabor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime orcompensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position.
