Do you use Craigslist? We get a good percentage of work from our ad placement on Craigslist. I have found that good keywords and linking helps with website ranking also.
Here is one example of a Craigslist ad...

Using Pictures help to make your ad stand out from the other lazily written "we pressure wash anything" guys ads.

Don't worry about the other ads.... Place your own ads listing your qualifications and some evidence of quality work like pictures or link to website with pictures.
If you aren't listing there, you are guaranteed not to get a call from a prospect that does a search. You may NEVER get a call, but it is FREE to list and IF you do get a call/job it will be the best money you ever spent on advertising. LOL

That may be for real estate listings or job postings.

Hey Mike
Help me out here please I have a few questions. LIKE how the heck do I get to a home page for Craigslist. I search and I come up with everything but a home page and what I do come up with is a bunch of San Fran stuff
Do you have a link to get me to the site for my area?
should you list in different states or should you just list areas in one ad?
Also can you do more than one listing, in different catagories?
What area should I put my listing?
Is it easy to post pictures?
Anything else I should know?

Actually not very many people look there at all. But when folks do a GOOGLE search, the ads show up in the results. This is why it is a great way to get high ranking on google searches. Doesn't matter then who is looking, they will find the ads.
Here is a GOOGLE search for "pressure washing Myrtle Beach" there are 4 craigslist ads on the first page.

Jeff, Later this weekend I will do a youtube video on how to place an ad on craigslist. Bear with me while I get an outline of how I want to present the video. It is one of the single most effective uses of the internet for marketing your website along with Google Local and Yahoo Local.
