This copycat cheddar bay biscuit recipe is an easy recreation of the biscuits from Red Lobster. The cheddar garlic drop biscuits are topped with a simple garlic parsley butter that has just a bit of Old Bay Seasoning in it.

The biscuits are made from scratch with simple pantry ingredients. They’re also really put together quickly, and they’re ready in about 15 minutes, which makes them a perfect side for a busy night.

Ingredients and substitutions

  • All-purpose flour
  • Granulated sugar
  • Baking soda
  • Garlic powder – Be sure to use garlic powder, not garlic salt.
  • Kosher salt – You can also use regular (table) salt. If using table salt, you’ll only need 1/4 teaspoon.
  • Buttermilk – If you don’t have buttermilk, you can make an easy substitute with this recipe.
  • Unsalted butter – If using salted butter, omit the kosher salt.
  • Sharp cheddar cheese – I like to use sharp cheddar cheese because it has more flavor. Mild cheddar cheese could also be used.
  • Parsley
  • Old Bay seasoning

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, garlic powder, and salt.

Add buttermilk and melted butter to the dry ingredients. Stir until just incorporated.

Fold in cheese until just combined.

Scoop out 3 tablespoon-sized portions of biscuit dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2-3 inches in between biscuits.

Bake for about 8-12 minutes, or until golden brown.

For the garlic butter, whisk together butter, parsley, garlic powder, and Old Bay in a small bowl.
Brush the tops of the hot biscuits with the garlic butter mixture.

Serve immediately.

How to store

The biscuits should be stored in an airtight container at room temperature. They will keep for up to three days.

Can you freeze the biscuits?

You can! Bake the biscuits as-directed, but don’t brush the biscuits with garlic butter.

Let the biscuits cool on a wire cooling rack to room temperature. Place the cooled biscuits in a resealable freezer-safe container. The biscuits will keep for up to 3 months.

When you’re ready to serve the biscuits, brush them with the garlic butter just before serving.

Ingredients

Biscuits

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 ½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Garlic Butter

  • 3 tablespoons butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Old Bay Seasoning

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 450 F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat; set aside.

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, garlic powder, and salt.

  • Add buttermilk and melted butter. Stir until just incorporated.

  • Fold in cheese until just combined.

  • Scoop out 3 tablespoons batter onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2-3 inches in between biscuits.

  • Bake for about 8-12 minutes, or until golden brown.

  • For the garlic butter, whisk together butter, parsley, garlic powder, and Old Bay in a small bowl.
