If you watch this week's CBS morning report on TMD https://lnkd.in/ggN_6Kxs - watch to the end to see the discouraging commentary of the newscast team. Watch this as if you were a patient and imagine why patients have fear and reticence about speaking up about their TMJ pain. Our work with Bradley Eli, DMD, MS includes presentations to frontline healthcare providers on the topic of how to identity acute jaw sprain/strain and incorporate conservative TMD prevention strategies in a timely way. Just the mention of TMD to healthcare providers triggers the types of images presented by the CBS story. Fortunately this story raises awareness of the 2020 NASEM TMD Consensus Report (which is excellent, and I am proud to be a member of the TMD Forum.) Also mentioned are the recent NIH grants. But there is no mention of the expert diagnostic skills and treatment options offered by the new specialty of Orofacial Pain, recognized in 2020 by the ADA as the 12th dental specialty. #JAMSS, #TMJ, #TMD,

Ann McCulloch I know these women personally and would respectfully disagree. They have been harmed beyond belief and there are many more gut wrenching stories like theirs. The women who spoke were catalysts of the NASEM report and you can see their testimonies before the National Academies on YouTube. We do not do patients a favor by ignoring that this happens, with much more frequency than you can imagine. These women and I all know of TMD patients who have had multiple surgeries. Some have died by suicide. One woman took her life the age of 60 after 40 surgeries.I was also harmed by TMJ surgeries that were done without respecting the surgical planes and led to heterotropic bone formation and eventual TJRs. My first surgeon did not allow me to chew solid food for over a year, nor pick up my baby for 3 months. I am a dentist who dedicated my career to studying this issue, caring for patients like these and educating providers about evidence based tx.https://www.google.com/gasearch?q=lisa%20schmidt%20nam%20report&tbm=vid&source=sh/x/gs/m2/5https://www.google.com/gasearch?q=jenny%20feldman&tbm=vid&source=sh/x/gs/m2/5https://www.google.com/gasearch?q=michelle%20reardon&tbm=vid&source=sh/x/gs/m2/5

Unbelievable and Unacceptable...ADA should grant the journalist an interview and make a strong stand on behalf of clinicians who treat TMD / Headache patients conservatively daily with HIGH SUCCESS. RATE.Any dentists or MD or researchers saying NO ONE know much about TMD are BUNCH OF IGNORANTS AND UN-SCIENTIFIC..THE ONLY BIAS THE US ORTHODONTIC COMMUNITY ALWAYS SINCE 1987 HAS IS HUMILIATION, DENIAL AND VENDETTA... THE DENIAL OF THE FACT THAT US ORTHODONTISTS AND ORAL SURGEONS HAD FAIED THE PATIENT INVOLVED IN THE FIRST MILLION DOLLARS TMD CASE BRIMM VS MALLOY IN 1987DR JAMES MCNAMARA AND THE MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY ORTHODONTIC DEPARTMENT WAS HUMILIATED BY DR JOHN WITZIG AND LOST THE LAWSUIT MISERABLY....DESPITE MCNAMARA'S TESTIMONY...INSTEAD OF ACCEPTING THEIR OWN FAULT AND RESPONSIBILITY IN CAUSING OR AT LEAST CONTRIBUTING TO THE TMD INJURIES TO THE PATIENT... THE US ORTHODONTIC COMMUNITY WENT ON A VENDETTA...THOUSAND OF RESEARCH PAPERS HAD SINCE PUBLIUSHED FOR ONLY ONE REASON:TO PROVE OCCLUSION HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TMD, EXTRACTION OF BICUSPIDS AND USE OF CERVICAL HG DO NOT CAUSE OR CONTRIBUTE TO TMDTHEY ARE ALWAYS WRONG AND STILL IN DENIAL EVEN TODAY...WHAT A PITYWHAT A SHAME

After McNamara finished his lecture to the jurors about SNA and SNB….Dr John Witzig came to the stand and saidThe poor patient does Not Care about SNA and SNB becauseSHE HAS PAIN…Can you believe it?My Hero Dr Witzig won easily without even an MRIGreene and Johnston stated in the textbook that the possibility of such a similar lawsuit To happen now is very slim…Are they kidding?

In recent years there have been advances in glaucoma detection, which means it can be treated earlier than ever so it’s important to get your eyes checked at least once a year particularly if you’re over the age of 40. https://lnkd.in/ea5k22HP#glaucomaawareness #eyetest #earlydetection #visionloss

🧡HCDI recognizes January as National Glaucoma Awareness Month. A leading cause of vision loss and blindness in the U.S., glaucoma has no symptoms at first but eventually causes side vision impairment. Although there is no cure for it, treatment is available to stop the optic nerve damage and prevent further vision loss. 👁️It’s imperative to get routine eye exams, especially an comprehensive dilated eye exam to screen for glaucoma if you: 🔸Are over 60 years old 🔸African American and over age 40 🔸Have a family history of glaucoma 🔎To learn more about glaucoma, visit https://lnkd.in/gv7fJYU #HCDI #HCDInternational #GlaucomaAwarenessMonth #VisionLoss #BlindnessPrevention #EyeHealth #RoutineEyeExams #ComprehensiveEyeExam #OpticNerveDamage #PreventVisionLoss #GlaucomaScreening #EyeHealthAwareness

Limited jaw opening can occur for a number of reasons. The onset of limited jaw opening may relate to a history that helps explain why limitation has occurred. At other times limited jaw opening occurs slowly and requires careful assessment to arrive at the correct diagnosis. Read on below, as Donald R Tanenbaum, DDS, MPH discusses this further, and speaks to his findings on the most common reasons for limited jaw opening:https://lnkd.in/gTGEvRePLet us know your thoughts, we value your feedback.#TMD #orofacialpain #TMJ #Trismus #drdonaldtanenbaum

It's National Glaucoma Awareness Month. Get an annual eye exam to protect your eyes from silent and symptom-free conditions like glaucoma. Once vision is lost, it's permanent. #GlaucomaAwarenessMonth
