AMERICAN PRESS THURSDAY, APRIL 4, 2019 A9 MONEY LOCAL SUPERMARKET CHAIN IS EXPANDING By The Associated Press HOUMA Rouses Mar- kets, a grocery store chain with stores across the Gulf Coast, is moving its head- quarters. The Courier reports the chain will move its corpo- rate offices from Thibodaux to Schriever, about 10 miles (16.09 kilometers) down the road. The company said in a press release this week that they had purchased the 32-acre (12ha 9499.4 hectare) property last week. About 150 jobs will move from the old location to the new one. The CEO, Donny Rouse, said the super- market chain is expanding and needed to move.

is something that our company needs. continuing to grow. We have 63 stores today with five more under construction. Our current office just handle the people that we need to run our Rouse said. He also said the company will open their first distribu- tion center.

That will add 200 to 300 new employees over the next year. location of the distri- bution center for us is perfect because at our office, so we can keep a close eye on it; we can be in there all day, every day to make sure going Rouse said. Food will first be sent to the distribution center and from there make its way to stores and supermarket shelves. Rouses employs more than 6,300 people and has locations stretching from Louisiana to Gulf Shores, Alabama. The company has been headquartered in Thibodaux for several decades.

But the move to Terrebonne Parish is in some ways a return to its roots since the first store was in the parish in Houma. The move to Terrebonne Parish is the most significant investment outside of the oil industry in recent parish his- tory. Terrebonne Parish Presi- dent Gordy Dove welcomed the move. the economic times facing, any kind of diversification we welcome, and you know happy to have the oilfield here, but any kind of diversification other than the oilfield is always Dove said. Rouses headquarters plans move, to open distribution center A missing DeRidder wom- an was found and returned home safely on Wednesday, after authorities say she had not been seen or heard from by family members for days.

Bethany Roberts, 23, was located in Leesville Wednes- day afternoon, two days after authorities say she had not made any sort of contact with family members. According to interim DeRidder police chief Chris- topher Rudy, Roberts was last seen by her mother on Mon- day at approximately 6 p.m. when she reportedly left to go put gas in her car. Family members became concerned when she did not return and could not be reached by phone. Close family friends told the American Press that they were especially concerned for her well-being because Rob- erts is five months pregnant.

By Pamela Sleezer Missing DeRidder woman found safe Special to the American Press Two boys have been hospi- talized in separate incidents this week after failing to yield to stop signs and striking ap- proaching vehicles, authori- ties said.

A juvenile bicyclist was hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday afternoon after striking a vehicle at the intersection of Bank and 15th streets while a second boy was hurt Wednesday morning near the intersection of Ar- kansas Street and Louisiana Avenue. Lake Charles Police Cpl. Scott Dougherty said the first juvenile was heading northbound around 4:56 p.m. Tuesday when he ran a stop sign on 15th Street and struck the vehicle. Dougherty said the juve- nile was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries and was later transferred to a Baton Rouge hospital.

No charges are expected and the investigation is ongo- ing, Dougherty said. Cpl. Michael Flurry with the Lake Charles Police Traf- fic Division is the lead investi- gator on that case. Dougherty said a second boy was traveling westbound on Arkansas Street at about 7:18 a.m. Wednesday and also failed to yield at a stop sign.

He said the 13-year-old struck a vehicle travelling southbound on Louisiana Avenue. The juvenile was trans- ported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. Neither the juvenile, nor the driver of the vehicle that struck him will be charged with any offense, Dougherty said. Officer Rodney Grantham is the lead investigator on that case. Separate bicycle accidents land two boys in hospital A New Llano store was evacuated Wednesday when authorities had to make emergency repairs to a punc- tured gas line.

According to authorities, the leak occurred at approxi- mately 12 p.m. in the parking lot of Grocery at the corner of La. 1211 near its intersection with U.S. 171. Mayor Denis Jordan said the leak resulted from the ac- cidental puncture of a small, unused feeder gas line that had not been capped off.

He said the leak occurred when a peron was digging in the area to place a fence pole. The storefront was closed temporarily and the area evacuated in order to allow for repairs to be made safely, and Jordan said there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident. to the wind blowing there was no accumulation of gas in the area. Thanks to the quick response from the New Llano fire depart- ment, the area was cleared and roped off to prevent any possible Jordan stated. The area was reopened to the public by Wednesday afternoon.
